The Alfred Adler Institute of New York is a post-graduate training institute for mental health professionals. The Institute has been the primary source of Adlerian psychology training in the Northeast for over 50 years. Our faculty and advisors include some of the most prominent practitioners and authors in the field.  The Alfred Adler Institute was a prime moving force in establishing both the National Association for the Advancement of Psychoanalysis - of which we continue to be an accredited member Institute – and the American Board for Accreditation in Psychoanalysis. The Institute has been chartered by the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York since 1961.

In addition to preserving the traditional Adlerian philosophy and treatment methodology of Individual Psychology, we concentrate on demonstrating how Adler’s theories remain fresh and applicable to contemporary society. Adler's ideas are reflected in the ideas of such well known psychologists as AbrahamMaslow, Albert Ellis, Viktor Frankl, Carl Rogers and Rollo May.  His pioneering concepts paved the way for such post modern schools of psychology as:  Cognitive Behavioral, Relational, and Positive as well as Solution Focused Psychologies.

The AAI-NY provides post-graduate training leading to the Certificate in Adlerian Psychotherapy.  Advanced students have the opportunity to do clinical work with clients at the Alfred Adler Community Consultation Center (the supervised training division of the Alfred Adler Center for Mental Health). Our programs offer selected courses for non-matriculating students.

We are very pleased to announce a collaborative relationship with the Adler Graduate School of MN Online Program.  Through this collaboration, students from the greater New York ( and Tri-State area) could participate in on-line courses for graduate credit at the the AGS of MN.  After having met admission requirements for the AAI-NY they could be granted transfer credits for these courses.  A combination of appropriate and requisite courses combined with supervision and training analysis could lead to certification in Adlerian Psychotherapy by the AAI-NY.  This program addresses training needs of licensed or licensable individuals and others who would like to enhance their Adlerian skills.  To find out more about this please contact us on-line or at 212-662-4193.

Our graduates staff the separate Alfred Adler Center for Mental Health and the Alfred Adler Community Consultation Center. Both offer fees for patients on a graduated scale: The Alfred Adler Community Consultation Center offers a lower range than does The Alfred Adler Center for Mental Health.

We are in the process of revamping and refreshing our website
